Criw Cymraeg

Shwmae!

We are the school's Criw Cymraeg. We have been elected to promote Welsh at Ysgol Waldo Williams and to support our school's Welsh Language Charter journey.

Our main responsibilities are:

being a Welsh champion and encouraging others to speak Welsh

supporting our school's Welsh language journey by running a weekly program of events. We also support our Welsh coordinator Miss Schmidt to think of new and exciting ways to make using and learning Welsh fun and purposeful.

Gwasanaeth Cymraeg

To celebrate pupils and teachers speaking Welsh at our school, we as the Criw Cymraeg lead a fortnightly assembly. One pupil from each class will be awarded with a Siaradwr y Pythefnos certificate. We as the Criw Cymraeg will discuss together and agree on which teacher has also earned the title!

We plan our own Cwestiwn y Pythefnos which we share with pupils and staff during the assembly. To encourage speaking Welsh outside of school we then create videos to share with our wider community on Class Dojo and X.

Siop Ffrwythau

During morning break, we as the Criw Cymraeg take it in turns to sell healthy snacks. This is a great opportunity for us and other pupils to use Welsh in a real life context.

Bwrdd Tanio'r Tafod

To celebrate the title further of Siaradwr y Pythefnos. The winning pupil has the opportunity to celebrate with a friend on a Friday lunchtime on the 'Bwrdd Tanio'r Tafod'. They are served by the Criw Cymraeg and even have a bonus treat of saws coch a sgwosh! We use the place mats to encourage pupils to use their Welsh whilst dining.

Chwarae yn Gymraeg

To encourage pupils to speak Welsh outside of the classroom,

on a Friday afternoon we support and encourage the use of the Welsh language through sport. Our friends are able to learn in a fun and engaging environment that helps to develop their language skills.

Dyddiadau Pwysig Important Dates

At the beginning of the year we discuss the key dates in the Welsh calendar. As a group during our monthly meetings we organise events to highlight and celebrate these important days.
